About Flovvi
What the app does, who it is for, and how to get started.
What is Flovvi and what does it do?
Flovvi is a nutrition companion for dogs and cats. You create a profile for your pet, then search or scan the foods you buy: Flovvi scores each product from 0 to 100, explains the quality of every ingredient, calculates the real cost per day for your pet, and suggests better alternatives. You can also build a personalized Food Plan and track what your pet actually eats. With the Pro plan Flovvi generates the ideal plan from your pet's profile for you, explains it, and lets you chat with an AI nutrition assistant that knows your pet.
Who is Flovvi for?
Flovvi is for owners who want to understand what is really in their pet's bowl: people choosing a new kibble or wet food, owners of pets with allergies or a diagnosed condition, anyone trying to manage their pet's weight, and owners who feed fresh or homemade food and want to check that the recipe is balanced.
Is Flovvi free?
Yes. The Free plan includes one pet and everything that evaluates a single food: barcode and label scanning, the Nutrition Score, ingredient breakdown, additive detection, profile warnings, the cost-per-day calculator, Smart Swaps, favorites, and the Food Plan with consumption tracking. The Pro plan adds the Ideal Plan generator with AI plan insights, the AI Nutrition Chat, and unlimited pets.
Can I try Flovvi before creating an account?
Yes. The pet profile wizard is available on our website without logging in: answer the same questions a registered user answers and you immediately see your pet's estimated daily calorie needs and nutrition guidance. At the end you can create an account with a password or simply ask us to email you a link, and the profile you just built is kept.
How do I get started?
Create your pet's profile, then search for the food you currently give them or scan its barcode. In a minute you will see its score, its cost per day for your pet and, if it scores poorly, better alternatives. From there you can heart foods as favorites and build a Food Plan — or, on Pro, let Flovvi generate the ideal one for you.
Does Flovvi replace my veterinarian or a certified pet nutritionist?
No. Everything Flovvi shows, including scores, plans and AI answers, is educational information to help you make better-informed decisions. It is not a diagnosis and not a prescription. For medical diets, underweight or overweight pets, growing puppies and kittens, and any diagnosed condition, always confirm changes with your veterinarian.
Which languages is Flovvi available in?
Flovvi is available in Italian, English and French. The interface, the pet profile wizard, the fresh ingredient database and the AI Nutrition Chat all follow the language you use.
Is there a mobile app? Which devices can I use?
Flovvi is a web app that works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. It is a Progressive Web App, so you can add it to your home screen from the browser menu and use it like a native app, with offline access to pages you have already visited and optional push notifications on that device.
Pet profile
Which pets are supported and why the profile matters so much.
Which pets does Flovvi support?
Today the pet profile, scoring and plans are built for dogs and cats. Our guides also cover rabbits, birds and horses, and the app is designed to add more species over time, but nutrition calculations are currently available only for dogs and cats.
What information does the pet profile ask for?
Name, species and sex, breed, date of birth, current weight, whether your pet is neutered or spayed, activity level, body condition, any diagnosed health conditions, food allergies or intolerances, and the goal you want to reach, such as weight loss or supporting a condition. Every answer is used somewhere: in the calorie calculation, in the food warnings, in the nutrition guidance or in the Food Plan.
Why does Flovvi need so many details about my pet?
Because generic advice does not work in pet nutrition. A neutered, low-activity senior cat needs far fewer calories per kilo than a growing kitten, an allergic dog must avoid specific proteins, and a pet with kidney disease has different priorities than a healthy one. Without the profile Flovvi could only tell you whether a food is good in general, not whether it is good for your pet.
Can I update my pet's profile later?
Yes. You can edit the profile at any time. Weight and body condition are recorded as a history rather than overwritten, so you can log regular weigh-ins and see the trend. When the weight changes significantly, Flovvi offers to recalculate the portions of the active Food Plan.
Can I add more than one pet?
The Free plan includes one pet, with its own profile and Food Plan. The Pro plan lets you add unlimited pets.
Does my pet's breed change the recommendations?
Yes, where it is relevant. You choose the breed from a list of dog and cat breeds, or pick mixed breed or other. Breed-specific nutrition considerations, such as nutrients to prioritize or watch for, are added to your pet's guidance and taken into account by the ideal plan generator.
How recommendations work
The method behind the numbers: calories, targets, scores and the role of AI.
How does personalized pet nutrition work in Flovvi?
Everything starts from your pet's profile. Flovvi first calculates the daily energy requirement from weight, life stage, activity level and neutering status, then derives protein, calcium and phosphorus targets for that species and life stage. Each food is scored against the minimum requirements for that species and life stage, and your pet's conditions, allergies and breed add specific guidance and constraints. These calculations are deterministic: the same profile always gives the same numbers.
How does Flovvi calculate how many calories my dog or cat needs?
Flovvi uses the standard veterinary formula for resting energy requirement, based on body weight, and multiplies it by factors for life stage (puppy or kitten, adult, senior), activity level (low, moderate, highly active) and neutering status. The result is an estimated daily calorie target, which is the basis for portion sizes, cost per day and the Food Plan.
Which nutritional standards are the recommendations based on?
Flovvi's scoring and requirements are inspired by the FEDIAF nutritional guidelines, the European pet food industry standard, rather than the American AAFCO standards, together with general veterinary nutrition principles. The values are estimates for healthy pets: for medical diets your veterinarian's instructions always take precedence.
Does an AI decide my pet's diet?
No. Scores, calorie targets, portions, alternatives and generated plans are all computed by rules and formulas, not by a language model. AI is used only where language matters: reading ingredients from a label photo, classifying ingredient quality, writing a short explanation of a generated plan or a piece of guidance, and answering your questions in the Pro chat. In every case the AI is given the computed facts and asked to explain them, never to invent numbers.
Why does the same food get a different verdict for two different pets?
The 0 to 100 score describes the product and is the same for everyone. What changes is the layer on top: profile warnings, such as a high-calorie food for an overweight neutered pet or a puppy food for a senior, the cost per day, which depends on your pet's calorie needs, and the allergen and condition filters applied to alternatives and plans.
Finding and scanning foods
Search, barcode scanning and label photos.
How do I find a food in Flovvi?
There are three ways: search by brand or product name, scan the barcode on the package with your phone camera, or, if the product is unknown, photograph the label. Fresh ingredients such as chicken breast or pumpkin have their own searchable database.
How does barcode scanning work?
Open the scanner, point the camera at the EAN or UPC barcode, or type the number manually. Flovvi looks the product up in its own catalog and, if needed, in the Open Food Facts database. If the product is found you land straight on its report card; if not, Flovvi asks you for a photo of the label so it can be added.
What if a product is not in the database?
You can add it yourself in two steps: a photo of the front of the package and a photo of the ingredients list and analytical constituents panel. Flovvi reads the label with AI, extracts brand, name, ingredients and nutritional values, and analyzes the product in the background. Products added this way are marked as extracted from a photo and not yet verified, and the barcode is remembered so the next scan is instant.
Which brands and products are in the catalog?
The catalog contains dry food, wet food and treats for dogs and cats, built from retailer catalogs, the Open Food Facts database and products scanned by users, alongside a database of generic fresh ingredients. It grows every day, and any product that is missing can be added with a label photo.
Can I compare two products?
Every product page shows the same report card, so you can open two products and compare score, ingredients, nutritional values and cost per day for your pet. Smart Swaps also compare automatically: they show alternatives with a higher score than the product you are looking at, at a similar or slightly higher price. A dedicated side-by-side comparison view is not available yet.
Should I rescan a food I have already scanned?
Yes, whenever you change food or a recipe is reformulated. Scanning is quick, and if the product is already in the catalog you immediately get the current report card, warnings and alternatives for your pet.
Reading the nutrition report
Score, ingredient colors, additives, nutritional values and warnings.
How do I know if a pet food is good quality?
Open its report card. The Nutrition Score from 0 to 100 gives you the overall verdict at a glance, the ingredient list shows each ingredient in green, yellow or red with the main ingredient highlighted, the additive badge reveals colorants, preservatives and other ultra-processed markers, and the nutritional values are compared with the requirements for that species and life stage. Warnings tell you when a food is not a good fit for your pet specifically.
How is the Nutrition Score calculated?
The score is a weighted average of two parts: the analytical constituents on the label, that is protein, fat, fibre, ash and moisture compared with the minimums and maximums for the species and life stage, and the quality of the ingredients, which counts more. Scores of 80 and above are green, 50 to 79 are yellow, and below 50 are red.
What do the green, yellow and red ingredient colors mean?
Green ingredients are specific and recognizable, such as fresh salmon or chicken meat. Yellow ingredients are acceptable but vague or less valuable, such as cereals or generic animal fat. Red ingredients are low quality or best avoided, such as unspecified meat and animal derivatives, sugars, artificial colorants or chemical preservatives. Ingredients listed first weigh more in the score, because labels list them in decreasing order of quantity.
What ingredients should I avoid in pet food?
Watch out for vague wording such as meat and animal derivatives or cereals without a named source, added sugars, artificial colorants, chemical preservatives such as BHA and BHT, flavor enhancers, and large amounts of cheap fillers. Flovvi marks these in red and counts the ultra-processed markers on every product, so you do not have to decode the label yourself.
What are the ultra-processed markers?
They are additives and E-numbers found on the label: synthetic colorants, chemical preservatives, emulsifiers and thickeners, and flavor or palatability enhancers. When Flovvi detects any, the report card shows a badge with the count; tapping it lists each one with its name, E-number, category and a short explanation. For products that come from Open Food Facts, its own additive and NOVA classification is cross-checked too.
What nutritional information does Flovvi show for a product?
The analytical constituents declared on the label (protein, fat, fibre, ash and moisture), the energy in kcal per 100 g, the full ingredient list with quality ratings, the life stage the food is formulated for, and the cost per day and per month for your pet. When a label does not state the calories, Flovvi estimates them from protein, fat and carbohydrates and marks the value as an estimate.
Why does a food show a warning for my pet?
Warnings appear when a product does not match your pet's profile: for example a very calorie-dense food for a neutered pet that is already overweight, or a food formulated for a different life stage than your pet's, such as puppy food for a senior dog. They do not change the product's score, they tell you whether it suits your pet.
Why does a product have no score yet, or say it is not verified?
Products added from a label photo are analyzed in the background, so the score appears once the ingredients have been read and classified, usually within a few minutes. They stay marked as AI-extracted and not yet verified until reviewed. Some imported products have nutritional values but no ingredient text yet: for those Flovvi shows the values and an empty ingredients card.
Is a higher score always better for my pet?
Not necessarily. The score measures the quality of the product, not its fit for one specific animal. A very high-scoring, calorie-dense food can be wrong for an overweight cat, and a pet with a diagnosed condition may need a therapeutic diet that scores modestly. Use the score together with the warnings, your pet's nutrition guidance and, for medical cases, your veterinarian's advice.
Commercial, fresh and mixed diets
Kibble, wet food, raw and homemade recipes, and how to combine them.
Is fresh food better than commercial pet food?
Neither is automatically better. A good complete commercial food is balanced by design and easy to dose; a fresh or homemade diet can be excellent but only if the proportions of meat, bones, organs and vegetables are right and the missing nutrients are supplemented. Flovvi supports both approaches, and a mix of the two, and checks the balance of whatever you choose.
Does Flovvi support fresh, raw or homemade (BARF) diets?
Yes, and for free — see the BARF planner page. Flovvi has a database of generic fresh ingredients organized by category: muscle meat, raw meaty bones, liver, other organs, vegetables and supplements. Each has a nutrition card per 100 g and a feeding-ratio guideline. When you place fresh ingredients in a Food Plan, Flovvi checks the recipe against the recommended proportions between the categories and against your pet's calorie target.
Can I mix kibble or wet food with fresh food?
Yes. A Food Plan can combine commercial products and fresh ingredients in the same day or even the same meal, and Flovvi adds up the calories and macronutrients of everything. The ideal plan generator has a dedicated mixed mode that builds a plan half from commercial food and half from fresh ingredients.
Do fresh ingredients get a score too?
No. A raw ingredient such as chicken breast or beef liver is not good or bad the way a formulated recipe is, so it does not get a 0 to 100 score. Instead you see its nutritional values per 100 g and a guideline on how much of it belongs in a balanced fresh diet.
Wet food or dry food: what does Flovvi recommend?
Flovvi scores both types with the same criteria and does not favor one. What it makes visible is the difference in energy density: wet food contains much more water, so the daily portion in grams and the cost per day are very different from kibble with the same score. The cost-per-day calculator and the Food Plan take that into account.
Portions and the Food Plan
How much to feed, building a plan, the ideal plan generator and tracking.
How much food should I give my dog or cat?
Flovvi calculates your pet's daily calorie target from the profile and converts it into grams for each specific food, using that food's energy density. On any product page you see the estimated grams per day for your pet; in the Food Plan those grams are split across the meals of the day. Remember that these are starting points: adjust with your veterinarian and by watching your pet's weight over time.
What is the Food Plan?
The Food Plan is your pet's daily feeding routine: which foods, how many grams, at which meal. You build it from any food in the catalog, and Flovvi checks it live against the calorie target, a basic protein, fat and carbohydrate split and, for fresh diets, the recommended ratios. Once activated it appears as today's plan on your pet's page, and every change creates a new version so the history is preserved. The Food Plan is included in the Free plan; the Ideal Plan generator, which composes it for you, is part of Pro.
How does the ideal plan generator work?
Choose where the plan may draw foods from (only your favorites, commercial food from the catalog, fresh homemade food, or a mix), how many meals a day, and any protein you prefer or want to avoid. Everything else comes from the profile. Flovvi sets a calorie budget adjusted for your goal, filters out foods that do not fit the species, life stage, allergies or health conditions, ranks the rest by score, profile fit and cost, sizes the portions, adds supplement suggestions where useful and splits everything across the meals. You get a proposal with the reasons behind it that you can apply to your plan with one tap and adjust freely.
Can I track what my pet actually eats?
Yes. Alongside the active plan you can log daily exceptions: a meal that was left half uneaten, an extra portion of a food from the plan or your favorites, or a treat with its calories. Flovvi calculates the net calories of the day, keeps a historical view of past days, and plots the calories against your pet's weight trend so you can see whether the plan is working.
How many meals a day should my pet have?
You decide. Flovvi suggests two meals a day for adults and three for growing puppies and kittens, and splits the daily grams of each food across them. You can also change the number of meals when generating an ideal plan.
What happens to the portions when my pet's weight changes?
Log the new weight on your pet's page. When the change is significant, Flovvi tells you and offers to recalculate the portion sizes of the current plan for the new weight. The weight chart also shows a healthy zone around the target, so you can see at a glance whether you are drifting.
How do I know if my plan is balanced?
The Food Plan page grades your draft while you build it: total calories versus the target, the protein, fat and carbohydrate split, and for fresh recipes the balance between meat, bones, organs and vegetables. If the assessment is poor, Flovvi lists concrete things to improve, grounded in the plan's own numbers.
Allergies, health conditions and life stages
Allergens, diagnosed conditions, weight goals, puppies and seniors, supplements.
How can I choose food based on my pet's allergies?
Enter the allergens or intolerances in the profile, in your own words. Flovvi recognizes the most common ones in Italian, English and French, such as chicken, beef, fish, egg, dairy, grains or soy, and matches them against the ingredient lists of products. Foods that contain a known allergen are excluded from Smart Swaps and from generated ideal plans, and the allergy is listed among the things to watch for in your pet's nutrition guidance. Ingredient lists are not always complete, so always double-check the label of anything you buy.
Which health conditions does Flovvi take into account?
For dogs: allergies, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease, hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism. For cats: allergies, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease, hyperthyroidism and lower urinary tract disease. You can also describe another condition in free text. Each diagnosed condition adds specific guidance, such as nutrients to prioritize or limit and supplements to discuss with your vet, and structured constraints that the ideal plan generator applies when choosing foods.
Can Flovvi help my overweight dog or cat lose weight?
Yes, as a support tool. Set weight loss as the goal and enter a target weight: the ideal plan is then sized for the target weight, with a safety floor so the deficit is never extreme, and calorie-dense foods trigger a warning on the report card. Regular weigh-ins show the trend against a healthy zone. Weight loss should always be supervised by your veterinarian, especially for cats.
Does Flovvi handle puppies, kittens and senior pets differently?
Yes. The life stage is derived from the date of birth and changes the calorie calculation, the minimum nutritional requirements a food is scored against, and the default number of meals. Growing puppies and kittens get an age-based energy budget in the ideal plan, and a food formulated for a different life stage than your pet's triggers a warning.
How do activity level and neutering affect the recommendations?
Both change the daily calorie target. A highly active or working pet gets a higher budget and a low-activity pet a lower one, while neutered or spayed adults get a reduced budget because their metabolism slows down. Together with body condition, they also decide whether a calorie-dense food triggers a warning for your pet.
Does Flovvi recommend supplements?
Only as suggestions. When a generated plan is homemade, or when your pet's guidance calls for it, Flovvi proposes add-ons such as omega-3, calcium, iodine, joint support, taurine or probiotics, with a rough daily dose and, where available, the matching generic item from the fresh database. Suggestions linked to a health condition are explicitly flagged to confirm with your veterinarian. Flovvi never prescribes.
My vet prescribed a therapeutic diet. Can I still use Flovvi?
Yes, but your veterinarian's instructions come first. You can scan the prescribed food to see its composition, add it to your favorites, build the Food Plan around it and log what your pet eats. Treat Flovvi's scores and alternatives as information, not as a reason to change a prescribed diet without talking to your vet.
Favorites
Saving the foods you like and planning with them.
What are favorites?
Favorites are the foods you hearted: tap the heart on any product to keep it in one list, shared by all your pets. The Food Plan offers them first when you add a food to a meal, and the ideal plan generator can build a plan from them alone.
How do I add a food to the Food Plan?
From any product page with the Add to meal plan button, or from the Food Plan itself: tap + on a meal and pick a food already in the plan, one of your favorites, or search the whole catalog. You don't need to save a food anywhere first.
Does Flovvi remind me to reorder food or tell me when the price drops?
Not yet. Refill reminders based on how fast a bag runs out and price-drop alerts are on our roadmap but are not available today. Push notifications currently cover the reminders you set yourself.
Does Flovvi sell pet food or earn money from the products it recommends?
No. Flovvi does not sell food and has no sponsored products: scores, Smart Swaps and generated plans are computed from nutritional data alone, and no brand can pay to rank higher.
AI Nutrition Chat
What the assistant knows, what it can answer and what it refuses.
What is the AI Nutrition Chat?
It is a Pro assistant dedicated to one pet at a time. Before answering, it is given your pet's full profile, the daily calorie target, the foods in the active Food Plan, the nutrition guidance derived from breed, conditions and allergies, and relevant excerpts from documents you have uploaded, such as vet reports. It answers in the language you write in.
What can I ask the AI Nutrition Chat?
Anything about your pet's nutrition: whether a food or treat suits them, how to read an ingredient, how to combine the foods in the Food Plan, how to move from kibble to a mixed diet, what to watch for with their allergy or condition, how portions relate to their weight, or which supplements are worth discussing with your vet.
What can't the AI Nutrition Chat do?
It does not diagnose, does not prescribe treatments and does not invent numbers: if something is missing from the profile it says so and asks you. It stays on nutrition, so it will politely decline questions about training, behaviour, grooming or non-food medical issues. For anything that sounds medically significant it recommends a veterinary visit.
Does the assistant use my uploaded documents?
Yes. You can upload PDFs or images such as vet reports and blood tests to your pet's profile. Their text is indexed so that, when you ask a related question, the most relevant passages are given to the assistant. Retrieval is strictly limited to the documents of that pet. Document uploads are available on both Free and Pro.
What data is sent to the AI, and is it used to train models?
All AI requests are made from our servers, never from your browser, and only the data needed for that specific task is included: your pet's nutrition profile, Food Plan and relevant document excerpts for a chat reply, or the label photo for a scan. We do not train our own models on your data. Details on the providers we rely on and on retention are in the privacy policy.
Free vs Pro
What each plan includes, billing and cancellation.
What is included in the Free plan?
One pet with a full profile, unlimited searches and barcode or label scans, the Nutrition Score and ingredient breakdown, additive detection, profile warnings, the cost-per-day calculator, Smart Swaps, favorites, the Food Plan, document uploads, the evidence-based Nutrition Assessment, and the pet profile guidance with your pet's calorie target. Free is free forever, not a trial.
What does the Pro plan add?
The Ideal Plan generator with AI plan insights, the AI Nutrition Chat and unlimited pets. In short, Free evaluates a food, assesses your pet's nutrition and lets you build a plan; Pro composes and explains the plan for you.
Can I pay monthly or yearly?
Both. Pro is available as a monthly or a yearly subscription, and the yearly option costs less per month. Current prices are shown on the pricing page.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. There is no minimum commitment: you can cancel or change your subscription from the billing settings whenever you want.
What happens to my data if I stop paying for Pro?
Nothing is deleted. Your pets, favorites, plans, documents and conversations stay in your account; Pro features such as the Ideal Plan generator and the chat simply become unavailable until you subscribe again, while your Food Plan keeps working.
How are payments processed?
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's secure checkout and never touch Flovvi's servers.
Privacy and your data
Who can see your data, how it is protected and how to delete it.
Who can see my pet's data?
Only you. Every pet, scan, favorite, plan, document and conversation belongs to your account and is checked against your ownership on every request. There is no sharing between users and no public profile.
How is my account protected?
You can sign in with a password, enable two-factor authentication with an authenticator app and recovery codes, or register a passkey to sign in with your device's fingerprint or face. Your data is stored on secured servers and access is enforced by authorization rules on every request.
Can I delete my account and my data?
Yes, at any time from the account settings. Deleting your account removes your pets and all their data, including documents and conversations.
Limitations and everyday use
How to use Flovvi well, what it cannot know, and how to reach us.
What are the limitations of Flovvi's recommendations?
Flovvi works with the data it has. Calorie targets are estimates for an average pet of that profile; the score depends on what the label declares, and some products have incomplete ingredient information or an estimated energy value, which is always marked. Allergen matching reads ingredient names and can miss unusual wording. None of this replaces a veterinarian who can see your pet, so use Flovvi to understand and compare, and confirm important changes with a professional.
How should I use Flovvi day to day?
Keep the profile up to date, log a weigh-in regularly, and rescan when you change food. Activate a Food Plan, log the exceptions when your pet eats more or less than planned, and check the weight and calories chart every few weeks to decide whether to adjust the portions.
Does Flovvi send notifications?
You can enable push notifications for each device from the notification settings, and disable them again at any time. Today they are used sparingly; they are the channel that refill reminders and alerts will use as those features ship.
Where can I learn more about pet nutrition?
Our Guide publishes articles on reading labels, calories and weight, homemade and BARF diets, clinical nutrition for dogs and cats, and how the Nutrition Score works.
