What is the BARF diet and the 80-10-10 rule?
BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) feeds dogs and cats raw ingredients in proportions inspired by whole prey: about 80% muscle meat, 10% raw meaty bones, 5% liver and 5% other organs — plus a little vegetable for dogs. Flovvi sizes those shares to your pet's daily calorie needs and checks the result.
How many grams of raw food does my dog or cat need per day?
It depends on weight, age, activity, neutering and body condition, not on a flat percentage of body weight. Flovvi computes the daily energy requirement with the FEDIAF method (70 × kg^0.75 × activity and life-stage factors) and turns it into grams of each ingredient.
How do I switch from kibble to raw food safely?
Gradually, one new ingredient at a time: first a single muscle meat mixed into the usual food in growing amounts, then soft raw meaty bones for calcium, then liver and organs. Flovvi builds a day-by-day schedule — about 14 days from kibble, shorter from wet or cooked food — and reminds you at each step.
Is the calcium-phosphorus ratio really that important?
Yes. Meat alone is rich in phosphorus and poor in calcium; without bones or a calcium source the ratio collapses and bones weaken over time, especially in puppies. Flovvi sums the calcium and phosphorus of every ingredient and warns when the ratio leaves the 1.1–1.4 : 1 range.
Do I need supplements on a raw diet?
Often a few: an omega-3 source if there is no oily fish, iodine (kelp) for dogs, taurine for cats, sometimes vitamin E. Flovvi estimates the micronutrients your recipe supplies against the FEDIAF minimums and suggests only what is actually short — always to confirm with your vet.
Is the BARF planner free?
Yes. The raw recipe, the balance checks, the transition schedule and the batch-prep portions are free for every account. Pro adds plans composed from commercial products and AI explanations.
